Tackling Dementia with AI Powered Eye Care | Siegfried Wagner | TEDxLondonBusinessSchool

Dementia has become the no.1 cause of death in the UK, however, around 50% of cases are astonishingly left undiagnosed, due to the insufficient traditional diagnosis process.

Siegfried Wagner, an ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, has been working on this AlzEye research project, which attempts to use the eye as a window through which to detect signals about the health of other organs. Join Siegfried to check out this ground-breaking diagnosis process powered by deep learning technologies. Siegfried Wagner is a Research Fellow and ophthalmologist at University College London and Moorfields Eye Hospital. Inspired as a medical student by the role of eye exams in diagnosing people with HIV and Tuberculosis in South Africa, Siegfried uses statistical modelling and artificial intelligence techniques to understand how changes in our eyes can represent overall health, from heart disease to dementia. New lockdown across England after warning of “thousands of deaths every day”- BBC News

The whole of England is to face a new month-long lockdown lasting until the second of December. Boris Johnson announced that unless action was taken now, hospitals would be overwhelmed and there would be thousands of deaths every day. He said no responsible Prime Minister could ignore the rising number of infections, despite having repeatedly rejected calls for a lockdown in recent weeks, in favour of local restrictions. Under the new national lockdown restaurants and pubs will close, but takeaways and deliveries will be allowed. All non-essential retail will also close, but supermarkets are to stay open Mixing with other households inside homes or in private gardens will be banned except for childcare and other forms of support.
