President Donald Trump’s refusal to commit to a peaceful presidential transition Wednesday comes as Republicans across the country are taking concrete steps that threaten to undermine the integrity of the election, particularly in key battleground states. He said no responsible Prime Minister could ignore the rising number of infections, despite having repeatedly rejected calls for a lockdown in recent weeks, in favour of local restrictions. Under the new national lockdown restaurants and pubs will close, but takeaways and deliveries will be allowed. All non-essential retail will also close, but supermarkets are to stay open Mixing with other households inside homes or in private gardens will be banned except for childcare and other forms of support. People are encouraged to work from home if possible. However unlike the first lockdown – schools, colleges and universities will stay open, Reeta Chakrabarti presents BBC News reporting by political editor Laura Kuenssberg, health correspondent Kathar...
